iOS 17 update lets you use AirPlay to stream movies in select hotels for the first time
An update from Apple has made streaming movies from your Apple device to your hotel room's smart TV much easier. You don't need to deal with cables anymore, as you can connect through AirPlay and watch your footage from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac on the big screen. Not only does AirPlay work with popular streaming services like Apple TV+, Disney+, and Hulu, but you can also use it to send content from your device to a TV or another Apple device. It's not just limited to movies and TV shows - you can stream music, view photos, give presentations, play games, or even workout on another screen. According to Apple, you can enjoy all this at selected IHG Hotels & Resorts properties such as Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites, and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. There are currently over 60 IHG hotels in North America with AirPlay-compatible TVs, and more hotels will be added in the future. To take advantage of this feature, it's a good idea to check with your hotel before your arrival to confirm if they offer AirPlay-compatible TVs. Apple hasn't specified which hotels and locations have them, other than mentioning the launch in North America. More information about availability will be provided by participating hotels and resorts. To start using AirPlay, simply scan the QR code displayed on your hotel room TV. This will connect your device to the TV, allowing you to stream content. You can connect multiple iPhones, iPads, and Macs to a single TV using AirPlay. Apple assures that each QR code is unique to the hotel room, ensuring that your content remains private. Your connection will also be erased when you check out, so neither hotel staff nor future guests can access your activity.
