Hasleo Backup Suite Review
We’re used to seeing free backup software that serves as a limited version of paid products to entice customers to buy, but that’s not the case with Hasleo Backup Suite Free – it’s a standalone, free tool.
This software has been used by over 15 million people, so it has a solid track record. But does this zero-cost backup tool stack up against other free options or even outshine some paid apps?
Hasleo’s app provides the core functions of a backup tool, but its free status means it lacks some features available elsewhere.
Its backup module handles system, disk, partition, or file backups, like many other apps. That covers most needs, though it doesn’t support backing up data from specific apps or smartphones—features that sometimes appear in more expensive apps.
That’s a good start, and the restoration module is similarly straightforward. You can restore entire backups or browse them to recover specific files or folders. The cloning module also lets you replicate systems, disks, or partitions.
Backups can be saved anywhere on your PC, including network locations, and the app offers a range of scheduling options. It supports full, incremental, and differential backups. You can schedule backups by time and date or trigger them when your system boots, when users log in, or when you connect specific USB drives.
Hasleo offers various encryption levels, backup splitting with custom sizes, password protection, 256-bit encryption, pre- and post-backup commands, and email notifications. It can also verify backup integrity and shut down your PC after completion.
In terms of core backup functions for home and small business users, Hasleo competes well with some paid apps.
Against free rivals like EaseUS Todo Backup Free and Paragon Backup & Recovery Community Edition, Hasleo holds its own. EaseUS doesn’t support system or disk cloning, and Paragon can’t handle partitions or copy disks.
One of Hasleo’s main free competitors, FBackup, offers cloud support and many app plugins, but it doesn’t provide incremental or differential backups unless you upgrade to a paid version.
Hasleo Backup Suite also includes extra tools. You can create bootable emergency disks, mount or unmount images, securely wipe drives, rebuild the Master Boot Record, and merge images.
It does lack some advanced features, like cloud storage and server management, which require more expensive, enterprise-level apps.
Interface and Use
The app’s interface is straightforward. On the left side, you’ll find the core backup, restore, and clone modules, highlighted with large icons, and relevant options in the central panel.
Additional tools are at the bottom of the left-hand panel, and the options menu is in the top-right. While Hasleo looks a bit dated, it’s easy to use, even for beginners.
We tested our latest slate of backup apps with a 42GB document folder, a 2.5GB spreadsheet folder, a 162GB media folder, and an 82GB mixed file folder. We backed them up to three different SSDs to ensure consistency.
Despite the dated interface, Hasleo’s performance was impressive. Its average time for media files was six minutes and six seconds, among the best in our tests of nearly twenty backup apps. Its mixed file average of eleven minutes and 34 seconds also ranked near the top.
It took less than four minutes to back up the spreadsheet folder, and the worst result was for documents, at thirteen minutes and eight seconds, still in the top half of our results.
Hasleo’s speed is close to EaseUS ToDo Backup’s and more consistent than Paragon’s, significantly outpacing the slower FBackup.
Support
Support options for this free app are minimal. Hasleo’s website provides an email address for technical help and a forum, but there are no other options, and no information about response times.
This is an area where paid apps excel, especially if you buy a business or enterprise product with priority support or phone and live chat options.
Competition
Hasleo’s main free competitors are FBackup, EaseUS, and Paragon. Hasleo Backup Suite Free offers more features, such as partition and disk cloning. EaseUS offers limited cloud storage, up to 250GB in the free version.
The only area where Hasleo slightly falls behind is speed. While it’s not slow, EaseUS is faster.
Verdict
Hasleo Backup Suite Free has a solid set of core backup features and good speed, all at no cost. It’s generally a better choice than FBackup, especially in terms of speed.
This makes it ideal for home users and sole traders who need essential backup functionality, although it may not suit medium or large businesses due to limited support and missing advanced features.
For those in need of a reliable free backup suite, Hasleo Backup Suite Free is hard to beat.
