The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus score well for repairability.

Apple introduced changes, but the new battery removal stands out. They removed the pull tabs for the base iPhone 16. Instead, an adhesive debonds with a low electrical current. It takes about ninety seconds to release, according to Apple. A video teardown shows the process in action, looking easier than before.

iFixit tech Shahram Mokhtari said, "I've never seen such a clean and smooth battery removal." Only the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus use this new adhesive. They earned a 7/10 on iFixit's repairability scale. "Apple is leveling up on repairability," Mokhtari said. He noted Apple has "landed another repairability win" with the new battery removal method.
