Apple Delays Siri’s Robot Vacuum Controls Until 2025
Voice command “Hey Siri!” on robot vacuum is announced until beginning of 2025. It was meant to arrive with iOS 18, but it didn’t happen.
When iOS 18 first launched, many users believed that Apple Home would finally support robot vacuums. This should let you use Siri voice commands to start cleaning your house. But months after the update’s release, there’s still no sign of robot vacuum compatibility. Apple also updated its webpage where in a small note at the bottom you can read that this long-awaited feature has been pushed back.
At first point, Apple suggested that we’d see this new functionality before the end of 2024. Some fans even hoped it would show up in iOS 18.2, but they were disappointed. Without this feature, people are using vacuum’s own apps or find complicated ways to achieve even the simplest tasks, like starting and stopping the vacuum or switching between mopping and vacuuming modes.
Part of the issue comes from the Matter 1.2 standard, which only added support for robot vacuums about a year ago. Until Apple fully implements this feature, if you have a robot vacuum in a smart home controlled mostly by Apple devices, you’ll have to keep using multiple apps or services. This makes what should be a simple, voice-activated setup more complicated than many users had hoped.
Robot vacuum control isn’t the only delayed feature from Apple. The company also announced that Siri’s new Apple Intelligence features won’t be ready until January 2025.
